Summary of Two Essays

"I Want a Wife" by Judy Brady:

The author of this passage, as I read in the paragraph titled, "Judy Brady," was apart of the feminist movement. From what I understand this is a movement of sexual equality, and that men and women are equal. The whole point of the passage is to explain that men expect all the things that she is listing and these roles just aren't realistic in modern times. A stereotypical wife just isn't realistic. Her essay explains that women have a right to have a, "wife," as much as a man does.

"Men----It's Their Nature" by Christina Hoff Sommers

This essay explains the almost opposite of, "I Want a Wife." The passage explains that there are feminine people, and masculine people and they are grouped into each category by biology and genes. There is nothing that gender activists can do to change whether or not someone is feminine or masculine. Efforts to feminize boys with dolls, quilts, noncompetitive games, girl-centered books, and feelings exercises will fail because the masculinity of a boy is hardwired. (Sommers, 368) Also she explains that masculinity and, "manliness," is starting to be accepted in our society.

The article that I am going to choose for my analysis essay is, "Men---It's Their Nature," because it explains so much more about the subject of masculinity and feminism. I think I will be able to expand my thoughts a lot more because of that.

  3. Try to not lift or use anything from the articles when writing summaries. Be as specific as you can to just cover the main points.
