Blog Post #4 Venn Diagram

The purpose of my paper is to show the difference between pow wow , and Coastal Native American culture. I decided that these would be great topics because I know a lot about the topics and I would be able to write about them because I come from both cultures. I also know that they share similarities, which would also be fairly simple to write about. I am very excited to start my paper!

Summary of Two Essays

"I Want a Wife" by Judy Brady:

The author of this passage, as I read in the paragraph titled, "Judy Brady," was apart of the feminist movement. From what I understand this is a movement of sexual equality, and that men and women are equal. The whole point of the passage is to explain that men expect all the things that she is listing and these roles just aren't realistic in modern times. A stereotypical wife just isn't realistic. Her essay explains that women have a right to have a, "wife," as much as a man does.

"Men----It's Their Nature" by Christina Hoff Sommers

This essay explains the almost opposite of, "I Want a Wife." The passage explains that there are feminine people, and masculine people and they are grouped into each category by biology and genes. There is nothing that gender activists can do to change whether or not someone is feminine or masculine. Efforts to feminize boys with dolls, quilts, noncompetitive games, girl-centered books, and feelings exercises will fail because the masculinity of a boy is hardwired. (Sommers, 368) Also she explains that masculinity and, "manliness," is starting to be accepted in our society.

The article that I am going to choose for my analysis essay is, "Men---It's Their Nature," because it explains so much more about the subject of masculinity and feminism. I think I will be able to expand my thoughts a lot more because of that.

Blog Post #2

I have visited this place many times throughout my life. Although I haven't visited my favorite place recently. My favorite place is very remote, and filled with wildlife. To get to my favorite place it takes a long journey. Which is probably a reason I haven't visited in a while. This place is filled with sand, and water. I might even see a waterfall throughout my journey. I love to visit this place because it is away from everything. I don't have phone service, and since it SO remote there are no people in this place. For generations my family has journeyed to this place. My uncle took me here for the first time when I was around the age of 5. He told me stories about the first time his father took him to that place. He was about the same age that I was, and his father told him a similar story. So this place has been shared with many generations before me. It was amazing because I realized that my ancestors have walked that same path for hundreds of years. That goes to show how special this particular place is. That same story is the relevant to everything in my culture. Dances, gatherings, fishing methods, creation of tools, basketry, language, etc. These are all traditional, and have been passed down to us from hundreds of generations before us. In fact, today I danced to represent my family and tribe as a blessing for the grand opening of the recently finished dock in our town. My favorite place symbolizes so much in my life.

Discussion Picture Blog Post

This is a picture of me and my dad when I was a lot younger. I actually remember when this picture was taken. This was at my uncle Jake's house in his living room. I had just got done playing tag with all of my cousins and I got mud on my brand new shirt. I was so mad and my dad cheered me up and was making me laugh. My mom was walking around taking pictures and saw me and my dad laughing so she decided to take a picture. I haven't really been close with my dad and this picture actually is a time when we were getting along, that is why it is so important to me.
